Lay readers are the laity participants in the service who read the lessons, the Prayers of the People, and administer the chalice during the Eucharist. There is a training course which each lay reader should attend once a year. There is no restriction on a person for reading, but a person must be 18 years or older to administer the chalice. They must also be baptized in the faith.
